Why Choose The NeuroMedical Center?

The passion for medicine runs through Dr. Thomas Flynn’s veins. Both his grandfather and great-grandfather were general practitioners in their prime. It was only natural for him to follow in their footsteps, but he steered off in a slightly different direction when he gained an interest in neuroscience. Dr. Flynn has been practicing since 1967, at the time being the only board-certified neurosurgeon between Baton Rouge and Shreveport.
In 1978, Dr. Flynn joined forces with neurologist Dr. Sam Levert, and two neurosurgeons, Dr. John Clifford, and Dr. Anthony Ioppolo. Together they formed The Baton Rouge Neurological and Neurosurgical Associates. Within the first five years that they had to expand their location to accommodate all their patients.
By 1986, Dr. Flynn and his partners rebranded his practice, giving it the name The NeuroMedical Center. Fifteen years later, Dr. Flynn opened the current location located off Bluebonnet in Baton Rouge that rises above Perkins Rowe. Dr. Flynn’s original Baton Rouge practice consisting of four brilliant neurological minds has now grown to over thirty!
Although Dr. Flynn retired back in 2008, his practices and beliefs continue to live on, ensuring a fantastic patient experience is offered to everyone who enters The NeuroMedical Center’s doors.

Experiencing chronic neck pain?

If you live in Baton Rouge and you’re experiencing chronic neck pain, you may want to visit The NeuroMedical Center. Your neck is flexible, supporting the weight of your head, but is susceptible to injuries or conditions that can cause pain and restrict motion.

Possible Causes of Neck Pain:

  • Muscle Strains (overuse)
  • Worn joints such as Osteoarthritis
  • Nerve Compression (herniated disks or bone spurs)
  • Injuries such as whiplash in an accident
  • Infections including rheumatoid arthritis, meningitis, or cancer

Services and Procedures Available

The NeuroMedical Center offers many services and procedures to help determine the possible cause of your neck pain. They offer CT scans that provide a detailed examination of the entire body making it easier to diagnose neurological complications including nerve damage, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, or tumors.

CT scans are used when x-rays are insufficient and a more detailed look is needed.
MRI Scans are used to produce detailed images of the body, similar to a CT scan. MRI is also used to view material flow and venous flow in areas of the brain or neck.
Myelograms may be used to evaluate spinal diseases such as herniated disks, spinal cord or brain tumors, spinal stenosis, or cysts.

The NeuroMedical team also offers physical therapy to help optimize muscle control, balance, flexibility, and movement to assist patients in building strength and endurance to improve mobility and decrease pain.  Occupational therapy is offered to patients who need help regaining their independence after disease, trauma, disability or aging. Our therapists, who have all received extensive training in the McKenzie Method® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy®, take a hands-on approach to re-teach patients the performance of activities necessary to function at home, work and community.
The NeuroMedical Center Rehabilitation Hospital offers programs to enhance the quality of life for patients living with spinal cord injuries and disorders. The physicians and staff help patients overcome the daily challenges of living with a spinal cord disability and enable them to return to a better quality of living.
