Dr. Scrantz is a board certified neurosurgeon and native of South Louisiana. He received his undergraduate degree in microbiology from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, graduating magna cum laude. Dr. Scrantz earned his medical degree from LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans before completing his general surgery internship and neurosurgery residency at The University of Tennessee Medical Center in Memphis. Dr. Scrantz continued his neurosurgical training by completing fellowships in minimally invasive and complex spinal surgery, as well as complex skull-base brain tumors. Dr. Scrantz is a highly respected instructor in these areas of neurosurgical specialization. His special interests include laser, minimally invasive, and complex spinal surgery, skull base surgery, complex brain tumor surgery, carpal tunnel, ulnar nerve, and acoustic neuroma.
Dr. Scrantz joined The NeuroMedical Center in 2006. He is a founding member of the Neuro Multidisciplinary Care (MDC) team at Mary Bird Perkins-OLOL Cancer Center and is actively involved in many professional organizations. He is also an Assistant Professor within the LSU Department of Otolarngology.
Dr. Scrantz has been named as one of Louisiana’s Top Neurosurgeons every year since 2007, and is committed to treating his patients with compassion and to providing innovative and sound medical options to those under his care. He is actively involved in many professional organizations including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the American Medical Student Association and the Louisiana Neurosurgical Society.
