Dr. Olson is the Greater Baton Rouge Area’s only board certified, fellowship-trained neurologist/neuro-oncologist and has specialized in the treatment of brain tumors and neurologic complications of cancer since joining The NeuroMedical Center in 1999.
Dr. Olson received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa before attending medical school at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Dr. Olson completed his residency in neurology at the University of Rochester in New York, where he proudly served as Chief Resident of the program. Dr. Olson followed his residency with a two-year fellowship in neuro-oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York where he received extensive training in diagnosing and treating primary central nervous system tumors, particularly brain tumors.
As a neuro-oncologist, Dr. Olson provides advocacy and state-of-the art care for patients with both primary brain tumors and brain metastases from other systemic cancers. His clinical interests include the treatment of brain tumors such as glioblastoma, astrocytoma, and meningioma. Dr. Olson believes each patient is unique and deserves a thorough, thoughtful and compassionate approach to help manage their complex condition.
Dr. Olson is a member of several professional organizations including the Society of Neuro-Oncology, the American Academy of Neurology, the Louisiana State Medical Society and the East Baton Rouge Parish Medical Society.
Dr. Olson is currently accepting new patients with general neurology and neuro-oncology conditions. He also has new clinical trials available for tumor patients including TRIDENT and NCI-MATCH.
