Dr. Gary J. Walker is a board-certified vascular neurologist specializing in stroke and other acute neurologic conditions. He cares for general neurology and stroke patients primarily in the inpatient setting at OLOL, but also provides tele-stroke consultations to several other OLOL affiliated hospitals.

He graduated from Catholic High School in Baton Rouge before graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Biology at Louisiana State University. He then received his medical degree at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Dr. Walker then moved to Colorado to complete his medicine internship and neurology residency, as well as his vascular neurology fellowship, at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine.

In 2019, Dr. Walker was named the stroke medical director for Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. In this role, Dr. Walker is responsible for collaborating with the multi-disciplinary stroke team to drive the stroke program’s initiatives; translating research into practice; and leading practice changes to maintain quality outcomes for stroke patients.

Dr. Walker’s expertise greatly improves The NeuroMedical Center’s and all of Baton Rouge’s ability to care for patients with neurological disease by ensuring patients receive early diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Dr. Walker’s addition to The NeuroMedical Center’s Neurology team also enables his colleagues who specialize in a variety of other neurological conditions to focus on providing focused care to their patients at our outpatient Neurology clinic.
