The NeuroMedical Center Clinic, home to the South’s largest team of experts for the brain, spine, and nervous system, is pleased to announce Gary J. Walker, Jr., M.D. has joined its Neurology department as its first full-time neurohospitalist. Along with advanced training in stroke and neurological conditions, Dr. Walker brings a specialized understanding of caring for patients in the hospital setting. Dr. Walker will officially begin seeing patients at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge in late August 2019.
Dr. Walker returns to his hometown of Baton Rouge with a goal of providing superior neurological care and stroke education to all of South Louisiana. The Catholic High of Baton Rouge graduate attended Louisiana State University as an undergrad before earning his medical degree at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Dr. Walker then moved to Colorado to complete his internal medicine and neurology residency, as well as fellowship training in stroke at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine in Denver, Colorado.
“I am thrilled to bring my passion for saving lives and the treatment of stroke back to Baton Rouge,” says Dr. Walker. “Joining such a talented group of neurological specialists was such a perfect fit, and I look forward to working alongside these physicians to serve the neurological needs of this community.”
As a neurohospitalist, Dr. Walker’s dedicated role is to care for patients who are hospitalized following neurological episodes including stroke, aneurysms, and seizures. His expertise greatly improves The NeuroMedical Center’s and all of Baton Rouge’s ability to care for patients with neurological disease by ensuring patients receive early diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Dr. Walker’s addition to The NeuroMedical Center’s Neurology team also enables his colleagues who specialize in various types of neurological conditions to focus on providing focused care to patients at The NeuroMedical Center’s Outpatient Neurology Clinic.
“Dr. Walker is just another key piece of the puzzle as we build on our ability to offer the highest quality of comprehensive neurological care available anywhere,” said Benjamin J. Boudreaux, The NeuroMedical Center’s Chief Executive Officer.
Dr. Walker becomes The NeuroMedical Center Clinic’s 8th neurologist on staff.
