Laser Spine Surgery

LOUISIANA’S LASER SPINE SURGERY LEADERS

If you are searching for relief from chronic neck or back pain, and are ready to get back to the things you love sooner rather than later, minimally-invasive laser spine surgery may be the answer. Laser spine surgery is a type of minimally invasive spinal surgery offered almost exclusively on the Gulf Coast by neurosurgeons and spine specialists at The NeuroMedical Center.  This innovative technology has helped hundreds of our patients find lasting relief from painful spinal conditions including spinal stenosis, herniated or ruptured discs, bulging discs, and other degenerative disorders.

Following laser spine surgery, most patients go home the same day of their surgery, and their surgical incisions are covered with a small bandage or band-aid.

UNDERSTANDING LASER SPINE SURGERY

Laser spine surgery is a type of minimally invasive spinal surgery that allows for smaller incisions than standard open back surgery.  The laser spine surgery procedure takes about an hour total, and requires only one small incision. The laser creates a super high energy made out of light, or photons, that’s concentrated in the tip of a pen-like tool. It only takes the doctors several minutes to remove the tissue they are targeting, achieving results that are quicker, safer, and require less recovery time than traditional surgery. Most patients go home the same day and their small incisions are covered with a small bandage or band-aid.

CAN I BENEFIT FROM LASER SPINE SURGERY?

Laser spine surgery is not the most effective treatment option for all spinal conditions, but can be used to treat the following symptoms and conditions:

  • Back or neck pain that does not radiate into the arms or legs
  • Back pain that affects the buttocks, hips, and/or legs
  • Weakness and/or numbness in the arms/legs
  • Sciatica
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Bulging or Herniated Discs
  • Pinched Nerve
  • Stenosis of the Cervical or Lumbar Spine

RECOVERY AFTER LASER SPINE SURGERY

Recovery from laser spine surgery is different for every patient. On average, patients who have undergone laser spine surgery or other minimally invasive techniques are discharged from The Spine Hospital of Louisiana the same day of their surgery.  On average, many of our patients return to full activity a few weeks.

THE BEST SPINE SURGERY OPTIONS

Neurosurgeons at The NeuroMedical Center were some of the region’s first providers to bring the state-of-the-art technology to the Gulf Coast in 2016. Furthering a commitment to bringing the most innovative spine surgery technologies to Louisiana, our spine specialists introduced robot-assisted spinal surgery to the region in 2018.
