The Spine Hospital of Louisiana at The NeuroMedical Center, a federally-rated 5-star hospital, is pleased to announce the completion of Phase 2 of a $5 million dollar hospital expansion project, which includes the addition of a brand new, state-of-the-art operating room.   Neurosurgeon, Dr. Gregory L. Fautheree, was the first physician to use the operating room on Friday, January 27th, performing laser spine surgery on a patient to repair a herniated disc.

The Spine Hospital of Louisiana’s fifth OR located on the first floor of The NeuroMedical Center campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana features the latest innovations in design to benefit patients, physicians, and staff alike. Its spacious 1,000 square foot design allows for better freedom of movement and more room to accommodate advanced surgical and diagnostic technology.   The new operating room is equipped with two, 60-inch wall-mounted monitors, permitting crisp visualization of x-ray images and increased viewing capacity to guide surgery.  New LED lighting not only provides exceptional surgical illumination, but keeps our clinical teams cool by producing 34% less beam heat while reducing overall energy consumption by 75%.

The addition of a new operating room is a key part of a two-phase construction project for The Spine Hospital of Louisiana to enhance facilities, services, and systems. Along with a new OR, Phase 2 added 6 more patient bays and an expanded patient waiting area.  In October 2016, The Spine Hospital completed Phase 1 of the expansion project by adding 14 patient bays, 2 new pain treatment suites, and 20 clinical team members.

“Our physicians and staff are very excited to begin using our expanded clinical areas, which will improve our ability to meet the growing demand for high quality spine surgery and pain management treatment,” said Robert D. Blair, CEO for The Spine Hospital of Louisiana. “With construction now complete, our organization can continue building on its strong foundation of bringing innovation and best-in-class healthcare to the people of South Louisiana and beyond.”

In 2016, The Spine Hospital of Louisiana led the state by performing over 7,000 surgical and non-surgical spinal procedures, and is the only hospital in Louisiana to receive a perfect 5-star rating for spinal fusion surgery care 10 years in a row. Based on federal patient surveys, The Spine Hospital of Louisiana has been recognized as the #20 Best U.S. Hospital for Overall Care, and is currently ranked in the top 3% of hospitals nationwide in Patient Satisfaction.

Additionally, The Spine Hospital is the first and only hospital on the Gulf Coast to offer laser spine surgery for the treatment of herniated or bulging discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative spinal conditions, and spinal cord injuries. This technology offers tremendous benefits for patients allowing for smaller incisions and faster recovery time compared to traditional open back surgery. Surgeons at The Spine Hospital of Louisiana plan to take full advantage of the new operating room to perform laser spine surgery on ideal candidates.
