Dr. Martin A. Langston Performs Louisiana’s First Medtronic DTM™ SCS Trial
The NeuroMedical Center’s Pain Management Specialist, Dr. Martin A. Langston, is the first physician in Louisiana to offer patients the very latest in spinal cord stimulation (SCS) therapy. On Thursday, May 15th, 2020, Dr. Langston successfully performed a trial procedure of the new Medtronic DTM™ SCS system at The Spine Hospital of Louisiana at The NeuroMedical Center. Patients who are searching for relief from chronic and debilitating pain can now ‘test drive’ the new SCS system, before more permanent implantation.
Spine specialists at The NeuroMedical Center offer SCS therapy as an effective treatment for managing chronic pain resulting from conditions including failed back syndrome (FBS), complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), and neuropathies. SCS relies on a small implanted device and thin wires (known as leads) to deliver low levels of electrical energy to mask or interrupt pain signals as they travel along nerve fibers to the brain, which reduces the sensation of pain. Before implanting a permanent device, a temporary spinal cord stimulator wire is placed in a patient, allowing the individual to evaluate the therapy. Often times, the complexity of traditional controllers and bulky cables discourages patients from opting for full implantation.
DTM™ (differential target multiplexed) spinal cord stimulation is a proprietary stimulation technology developed by Medtronic to enhance the pain relief capabilities of SCS therapy. DTM™ is a uniquely programmed waveform setting delivered by the Medtronic Intellis™ spinal cord stimulator platform. This innovative new setting could potentially result in up to 80% relief for patients suffering from chronic, intractable pain. To learn more about the advanced technology click here.
“As one of the premier providers of spinal cord stimulation therapy on the Gulf Coast, The Spine Hospital of Louisiana is thrilled to offer our patients another option for chronic pain management,” said Dr. Martin A. Langston. “By offering more non-opioid treatment options, this is also a step in the right direction for hospitals everywhere amid a national opioid abuse crisis.”
The NeuroMedical Center’s back pain experts perform hundreds of SCS trials and implants every year, and are proud to offer all of the leading brands of spinal cord stimulator systems including Medtronic and Abbott.
