She continued her studies at the University of Southern California at San Francisco, where she got her neuroscience doctorate, then attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham to receive her clinical psychology doctorate. For eight years, she worked for Louisiana’s Department of Health and Hospitals as a state psychologist. While she was in the juvenile correctional facilities, she worked on doing evaluations in a biopsychological style, both on children and adolescents. From these studies, entire treatment plans were created to better help those who are facing such unique problems. The Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration took note of the dedicated work she did within this space and was a part of a $30 million grant to develop these systems in a higher quality manner.
