Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70810
Dr. Scott Nyboer received his undergraduate degree in physiological psychology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor before attending medical school in Detroit at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed a one-year internship at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit, and then returned to Wayne State University to complete his three-year residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
Dr. Scott Nyboer joined The NeuroMedical Center’s physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain management team in 1993. His identical twin brother, Dr. John Nyboer, is also a PM&R/pain medicine specialist at The NeuroMedical Center. Dr. Nyboer is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the East Baton Rouge Parish Medical Society, the Louisiana State Medical Society, the Spine Intervention Society, and the American Academy of Pain Medicine. He is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) and pain management.
As a highly trained specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) and pain management, Dr. Nyboer focuses on helping patients experiencing impaired mobility and pain associated with neurological conditions or injuries improve functioning and manage pain. Many illnesses and injuries that affect the brain, nervous system, and spine cause painful symptoms that can limit a patient’s ability to do daily activities and enjoy life as they once did.
With customized rehabilitative therapy under the care of a PM&R specialist like Dr. Nyboer and his colleagues at The NeuroMedical Center, patients in Louisiana who have a spinal cord or sports injury, or have Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis or chronic neck and back pain, live independently with less pain. They also work with many patients who have acute pain after surgery or have suffered a stroke and lost functioning.
Focused on non-surgical methods, physical medicine and pain management treatments use rehabilitation therapies and minimally invasive procedures to help patients regain movement and reduce pain. Depending on each patient’s needs, PM&R and pain management treatment may include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, medication management, epidural steroid injections, trigger point injections, facet injections, or nerve blocks.
In his practice, Dr. Nyboer collaborates with the team of physical, occupational and speech therapists at The NeuroMedical Center to treat patients who are receiving long-term inpatient rehabilitation or outpatient therapy. This multidisciplinary approach provides more coordinated comprehensive and high quality care to achieve better outcomes for our patients.
