Clinical, Forensic, and Medical Psychologist Joins The NeuroMedical Center Team

The NeuroMedical Center (NMC), home to the South’s largest team of experts for the brain, spine, and nervous system, is pleased to announce the introduction of clinical psychologist, Darla M. R. Burnett, Ph.D., M.P. to its Neuropsychology Department. Dr. Burnett brings 17 years of clinical experience to NMC, and becomes the organization’s third clinical psychologist on staff. Dr. Burnett officially  joins NMC on Monday, May 1, 2017, and will work alongside two staff neuropsychologists, as well as neurologists, neurosurgeons, PM&R/Pain Medicine specialists, and neuroradiologists to deliver the highest level of comprehensive care for individuals with known or suspected brain-related injuries and illness.

Dr. Burnett earned her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg in 1996, followed by her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from USM in 1999, and her post doctoral masters degree in Clinical Psychopharmacology from the California School of Professional Psychology in 2002. In her early career, Dr. Burnett served as a psychologist for the state of Louisiana working briefly at the Jetson Correctional Center for Youth and for over ten years at the Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System- Forensic Division. Dr. Burnett joins NMC after spending six years at her own clinical, forensic, and medical psychological practice in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Dr. Burnett’s expertise centers around the evaluation and treatment of individuals with psychological difficulties including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, brain injury, and learning issues. Dr. Burnett specializes in diagnostic interview, mental status examination, psychological testing, treatment therapies, and medication management. Dr. Burnett’s knowledge, background and experience will help NMC meet the demand for services for people with known or suspected psychiatric illness and psychological factors associated with concurrent medical conditions.
